We’re based in Harrogate, near Knaresborough, which puts us right in the heart of the Harrogate business community. Over the years, we’ve worked with a genuinely varied mix of organisations and businesses across the district, from independent retailers on the high street to engineering consultancies, estate businesses, and local NHS trusts. And across all of those projects, a few things stand out as consistently true…
A good website isn’t just a digital brochure. It’s often the first serious impression your business makes, the place where buying decisions get made, and (when it’s built properly) one of your most consistent sources of new enquiries. In this post we want to walk through some of the work and web designs we’ve done for Harrogate and North Yorkshire businesses, and what each project taught us about what really matters when you’re building or rebuilding a site.
first impressions are made in seconds
your design has to earn trust immediately
When Snooty Frox, Harrogate’s much-loved designer occasion-wear boutique came to us, they already had a strong retail reputation. The brief was to translate that into a website that felt as considered and premium as the experience of walking into their store. We built an SEO optimised e-commerce website that integrated with their point-of-sale system, handled product pages across 50+ designer collections, and gave customers a smooth path to booking a dress fitting appointment.
The results speak to what happens when:
are aligned from the start. Snooty Frox went from around 5,000 monthly organic visitors in 2019 to over 50,000 today, with 769,000 monthly impressions. That’s not down to one thing, it’s what happens when a beautiful website is backed by the right keywords, the right content, and ongoing SEO support.
The lesson: if your website looks like it’s from a different era to your business, customers will notice. And they’ll go elsewhere.
when your website needs to speak to more than one audience (without confusing either of them)
The Work Coach is a North Yorkshire coaching business with two quite distinct audiences:
- Individuals navigating the transition from education into employmentant
- Business owners looking to unlock the potential in their people.
Those two audiences have different motivations, different language, and different decision-making processes. Building a single website that speaks clearly to both of them, without feeling confused or generic, required real care in the architecture, the copywriting, and the user journey.
We designed and built their site from the ground up, handling:
The result was a clean, modern platform that guides each visitor type towards the information relevant to them, with a tone that reflects the coaching philosophy at the heart of the business.
“Working with TIG has been easy. From the very start, they took the time to truly understand our brand and vision… Our new site is fast, user-friendly, and beautifully designed, helping us reach more clients than ever before.” Owner of The Work Coach.
If your business serves multiple types of customers (and not all businesses do) your website structure needs to reflect that. A confused visitor doesn’t convert. They leave.
credibility signals
local and professional services live or die on
One of our client’s, 1 Cardale Park offers premium serviced office space in Harrogate, the kind of product where the quality of the website really does influence whether someone picks up the phone. A business looking to commit to flexible office space is making a significant decision. If the website feels cheap or unclear, the enquiry simply doesn’t happen.
We designed and built a site that put the spaces front and centre. We wanted to convey the premium feel of the offices themselves through strong visuals, clear service breakdowns across co-working, hot-desking, and meeting room hire, and copy written specifically to target the local search queries that Harrogate businesses and relocating companies would use. Everything was built with local SEO in mind, making sure the right people found them.
This is something we see again and again with professional service businesses in Harrogate: a clear, well-structured website with strong local signals consistently outperforms a flashier site that doesn’t communicate clearly, or worse…rank.
heritage and craft need a website that does them justice
York Handmade Brick is one of the UK’s leading producers of traditional handmade bricks, with a heritage rooted in the North Yorkshire countryside. Their bricks have been used on projects at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and the Shard. Conveying that level of quality and craft online is a genuine creative challenge. Generic templates simply don’t cut it.
We designed and built a site with large-format visuals, detailed product filtering, and a project gallery that let the work speak for itself. We’d previously handled print materials for York Handmade, so this was a longer-term relationship built on trust, something that made the web project run more smoothly.
“Since the launch, we’ve seen a marked increase in both web traffic and customer enquiries. The improved structure and SEO-friendliness of the site have helped us reach a wider audience, while the elegant design has elevated our brand image.” — York Handmade Brick
The lesson: if your product has genuine quality and heritage, your website should be ambitious enough to match it. Anything less undersells you. It’s important to know where your products and services sit, are they premium? Are they affordable? These things matter and play a part in design work, branding, and even marketing and campaigns.
A great example is looking at all Macdonalds marketing materials and adverts, and then looking at an Austin Martins. Colours matter, reds and yellows indicate cost friendly, joy, fun, playful. Blacks, silvers, golds show more of a premium product. Fonts and language that is used matter too.
professional services firms need brand consistency (not just a website)
Civil and structural engineering consultancy JPG Leeds came to us needing a brand refresh and a website redesign. Their existing brand had served them well for a decade, but the visual identity had drifted out of step with the company they’d become. We refreshed the colour palette, introduced new typography, and rebuilt the website around a cleaner, more navigable structure, with a completely overhauled projects section so potential clients could quickly find relevant examples of their work.
“TIG understands our brand and its values, the work is always handled in a friendly, professional manner. We can always speak to someone which is refreshing, and the level of backup and support we receive is exceptional.” — JPG Leeds
Brand and website are not separate conversations. For professional services firms such as: engineering, legal, financial, consulting, your visual identity shapes how credible you appear before a word is read.
even the most established organisations need digital that works
We’ve also had the privilege of supporting organisations you’ll recognise, including a nearby NHS trust and work for Bettys, one of North Yorkshire’s most iconic brands, on print and marketing materials. What those projects reinforce is something we’ve found across every sector: even organisations with strong reputations and loyal customers still need their digital presence to be sharp, consistent, and well-maintained. Reputation doesn’t travel automatically from offline to online.
what all of these projects have in common
Whether it’s a luxury boutique in the town centre, a serviced office provider near Harlow Carr, a traditional brick manufacturer in the North Yorkshire countryside, or a coaching business serving both individuals and corporate clients, the principles don’t change much.
A website needs to load quickly, look right, speak clearly to the people it’s trying to reach, and be visible to the right search queries. It needs to reflect the quality of the business behind it. And it needs to be maintained, developed, and supported over time (not just launched and forgotten).
That’s what we do at TIG. We’re a Harrogate and Knaresborough-based creative and digital agency with more than 50 years behind us, and we work with businesses across the district every day.
If your website isn’t doing enough for your business right now, we’d be happy to take a look.
